A histopathological study in 42 patients with Behçet's disease (BD) evaluated whether papulopustular lesions (PPL) have diagnostic value in BD. A control group of 21 patients with acne vulgaris was included. The key findings were that BD patients had significantly more vasculitis (leukocytoclastic and lymphocytic types) than controls (P = 0.016). Moreover, BD patients had significantly less folliculitis and perifolliculitis (11.9%) than controls (42.9%; P = 0.006). Thus PPL can be used as a diagnostic criterion for BD subsequent to finding vasculitis on biopsy examination (Kalkan, G. et al. JEADV 2009, 23(9): 1056).
