Proactive treatment decreases serum IgE titer in pediatric patients with severe atopic dermatitis

 
 

The relationship between the long-term remission level and total serum IgE in 47 children (mean age 4.3 years) with atopic dermatitis (AD) was investigated. Proactive treatment with topical corticosteroids was encouraged and patients were evaluated after 1-2 years. Their mean IgE level was 6,920 IU/ml. At discharge, patients were divided into 3 groups according to their SCORing Atopic Dermatitis Index (SCORAD) score: remission-maintenance (SCORAD <20); partial remission (SCORAD 20-40); and deteriorated (SCORAD >40). Differences from baseline in SCORAD and IgE were no different across these subgroups.
