Prospective case-controlled cohort study to assess preclinical cardiovascular disease in psoriasis patients

 
 

A study investigated whether or not validated markers of cardiovascular disease (CVD) are more prevalent in patients with moderate-severe psoriasis. Patients with known CVD risk factors were excluded to assess whether psoriasis per se is associated with preclinical CVD. A total of 60 patients were recruited with 30 healthy controls as comparators. High sensitivity C-reactive protein (HSCRP) levels were elevated (> 2 mg/mL) in 53% of the psoriasis group and their mean BMI was 26.42. There was no difference in flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) or carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) between patients and controls.
