Safety and efficacy of tacrolimus ointment in pediatric atopic dermatitis: A review

 
 

A review of both short- and long-term studies of tacrolimus ointment 0.03-0.1% in the treatment of pediatric atopic dermatitis patients aged 2-17 years was published. Three vehicle-controlled studies of 3-12 weeks duration and involving 848 patients and 5 active-controlled studies of 3-6 weeks duration involving 2,237 patients were reviewed. In addition, four long-term, open-label studies of 12-49 months duration involving 5,071 patients were discussed. Tacrolimus had a low potential for systemic accumulation and had a good safety profile, alone or in combination with corticosteroid agents (McCollum, A.D. et al. Ped Dermatology 2010, 27(5): 425).
