An Argentinean study aimed to verify via a questionnaire, the efficacy of first and second generation antihistamines on the clinical symptoms, severity and patient quality of life of 45 pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD) patients. The primary outcome was the parents' satisfaction scores for efficacy, tolerability and global satisfaction; secondary outcomes were the physicians' scores on the same outcomes. Fexofenadine was the second generation antihistamine that was most preferred and effected significantly higher satisfaction scores and less somnolence than first generation agents. It also had less impact on the child's sleep and school activities (Alul, M. et al. 29th Congress Eur Acad Allergy Clin Immunol (June 5-9, London) 2010, Abst 1602).
