A retrospective chart review of 65 adult patients (aged 18-35 years) with atopic dermatitis (AD) who had been followed monthly for over 10 years was conducted. The aim was to analyze factors contributing to the prognosis of AD. Several factors were analyzed including AD duration, serum lactate dehydrogenase, eosinophil count and serum total IgE. The strongest prognostic factor was the total IgE level, with a standard partial regression coefficient of 0.447, p=0.008. (Katoh, N. et al. J Dermatol 2008, 35[8]: 477-483).
