A study investigating the frequency of positive titers of antibodies that are characteristic of celiac disease in patients with psoriasis exacerbation was conducted. Serum from 67 patients with psoriasis exacerbation was compared with that from 30-85 healthy controls (depending on which antibody test was conducted). Patients with psoriasis had significantly higher concentrations of antibodies against tissue transglutaminase and gliadin than controls. IgA antibodies against tissue antibodies and gliadin correlated positively with disease activity on the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (Damasiewicz-Bodzek, A. and Wielkoszynski, T. et al. JEADV 2008, 22[9]: 1055-1061).
