CLA+ T-cell subsets correlated with disease severity in acute psoriasis

In research providing insight into the development of psoriasis lesions, the correlation between cutaneous lymphocyte-associated antigen (CLA)-positive T-cells and disease severity was assessed in 31 psoriasis patients. Study subjects included 7 guttate, 8 acute and 16 chronic psoriasis patients. The amounts of circulating CD3+ and CD4+ CLA+ subsets were found to be inversely correlated to disease severity (Psoriasis Area Severity Index [PASI] scores) in guttate and acute psoriasis but not in chronic psoriasis patients. The counts of both CD3+ and CD4+ CLA+ subsets were also inversely correlated with the extent of disease (body surface area [BSA]) in patients with guttate psoriasis.
