A 4-week, randomized, double-blind trial compared the efficacy of a Dermasilk sleeve with an antimicrobial finish (AEM/5772/5) or a similar material without the antimicrobial, in treating 30 noninfectious atopic dermatitis (AD) patients aged 3-31 years. All had lesions on their arms. Outcomes were photographic assessment, the SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index adapted for the arms, and a visual analogue scale for pruritus by parents and patients. The SCORAD index decreased over the month for both groups, but the Dermasilk group achieved constant decreases each week, whereas the controls only achieved falls in the first week.
