Serum levels of pro- and antiinflammatory cytokines in psoriasis patients treated with the Goeckerman regimen

 
 

An open-label, controlled study in 55 psoriasis patients and 47 healthy controls described the changes in pro- and antiinflammatory cytokines (IL-12 and IL-10, respectively) after patients received the Goeckerman regimen (GR). This comprises the dermal application of coal tar and exposure to UV radiation. Serum levels of IL-12 and IL-10 were measured before and after GR in patients and compared with those in healthy blood donors. The Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) was used to explore GR efficacy. Compared to controls, IL-12 and IL-10 were significantly increased in patients (p < 0.001).
