The capacity to maintain disturbing emotions under control is very important to achieving emotional well-being: disturbing, very intense or long-lasting feelings debilitate our stability. Much of what we do, especially during our free time, is an attempt to control our state of mind. Things such as reading, watching television, going to a movie, recreational activities and the people we choose to be with are ways we find to feel better; the art of calming down is one of the most essential psychological tools of all times.
