22 - Select the right CME for you
With the plethora of CME activities available, it is important that you carefully select the activities you wish to participate in, not only to prevent you from wasting your valuable time, but also to make sure you have a more rewarding experience that will have a positive impact on your practice. According to the AMA's Ethical Issues in CME, "The physician choosing among CME activities should assess their educational value and select only those activities which are of high quality and appropriate for the physician's educational needs." Among other criteria, these activities should "contain information on subjects relevant to the physician's needs" and that are "responsibly conducted by qualified faculty".Activities should also be offered by accredited institutions and certified for credits. This ensures you that the activities are high quality and that they follow ethical and legal guidelines. You may also need those credits to maintain your license or appointment. Again, activities with some level of interaction will probably be more effective in helping you learn and retain the information set forth.
