Professional Development

8 - CME: A responsibility
CME is not only an ethical obligation, but also a legal and professional responsibility. Physicians may be required by either state and/or national authorities, hospitals or specialty boards to obtain a certain number of CME credits within a specific time period in order to maintain their licenses to practice or appointments. There may also be specific curriculum requirements. For example, doctors may be required to take more courses in a specific disease area, such as HIV/AIDS, or to obtain credits from a mix of different types of CME activities, such as live lectures, online, etc.
