Better response to cyclosporine therapy in psoriasis patients with weight loss

 
 

An interesting study from Verona University in Italy investigated whether 5-10% of body weight loss could increase the therapeutic response to a low dose of cyclosporine in obese patients with moderate to severe chronic plaque psoriasis. In a 24-week randomized, controlled, investigator-blinded, clinical trial involving 61 patients, the efficacy of daily cyclosporine (2.5 mg/ kg) combined with a low-calorie diet (intervention group) was compared with that of cyclosporine alone (control group) in obese patients (body mass index >30) with moderate to severe psoriasis.
