Efficacy of emollients in pediatric atopic dermatitis

 
 

The efficacy of an emollient (TriXera) which has antiinflammatory and antipruritic effects was evaluated in 54 children with atopic dermatitis (AD) aged 3 months-12 years. Trixera was used b.i.d. for 3 months, alone or with other therapies. Monthly evaluations for xerosis, quality of life, tolerability and concomitant medications were made. Xerosis decreased significantly in 20% of patients in the first month and in 70% in months 2 and 3. Concomitant medication decreased consistently from days 0-90; at day 0 only 1.5% used Trixera monotherapy while at day 90, this had increased to 43%.
