Heart rate variability measurements were obtained from 30 patients with topic dermatitis and compared to data from 30 matched controls to assess the autonomic state in individuals with atopic dermatitis. Higher parasympathetic modulation values were observed in patients with atopic dermatitis, as indicated by the increase in the root mean square of successive differences. In addition, an association was observed between some parasympathetic parameters and the occurrence of dermatological symptoms or the time since the last disease exacerbation.
