Interruptions
Interruptions are other typical time stealers. There are two basic techniques, distinct but complementary, to deal with or fight against interruptions: the first is to try to avoid them and the second is to make them as brief as possible. Be assertive and only accept interruptions when the issue is of real interest; otherwise, do not accept them. When someone asks, "Do you have a minute?", a good way to avoid the interruption is by answering, "Now?". This simple word will avoid many future interruptions or, at least, postpone them to a free time in your agenda. To ensure interruptions are brief, be sure to let people know, in an assertive, not aggressive, manner, that you do not have time to waste.
